For Veterinarians
This page is to help familiarize veterinarians with the use of Apocaps™ in dogs.
What are Apocaps™?
Apocaps ™ may help support normal life quality and long-term health. Apocaps™ capsules are sources of apoptogens. Apoptogens are substances that may help support the normal process of apoptosis, and are commonly found in plants and fungi. Apoptosis is a normal function defined as genetically programmed cell death. Normally, apoptosis may occur in body cells and may support a shift favoring healthy cell populations. Post-apoptotic cellular materials may be recycled and used in new cell production. Nutriments in Apocaps™ also may help support normal orthopedic and immune functions.
Are Apocaps™ antioxidants?
Although the polyphenols in Apocaps™ are often referred to as antioxidants, the levels and delivery mechanism in Apocaps™ may help promote normal pro-oxidant effects. This is one of the pathways that may help support normal apoptosis levels.
What results may be seen with Apocaps™ use in dogs?
Active ingredients in Apocaps™ may help support normal COX and LOX enzyme activity levels. In addition, active ingredients in Apocaps™ may help support normal levels of angiogenesis. They may also help support normal mitosis and apoptosis levels. A week or less of use may help support normal life quality, although in some dogs, this may be more gradual, taking up to 3-4 weeks. Apocaps™ may help support normal degrees of activity and normal immune function, and may help support the normal desire to ambulate.
Which dogs should not use Apocaps™?
Use in dogs with allergic reactions to components in Apocaps™ should be avoided. Apocaps™ should be avoided or used with caution in cases of hepatopathy, nephropathy, coagulopathy, or gastrointestinal upset. Concurrent use of drugs having anti inflammatory effects should be avoided or used only with caution at reduced doses. Use in anorexic dogs should be avoided to minimize incidence of gastrointestinal upset. Dogs less than 5 pounds should not use Apocaps™ of this strength. Safety has not been established for use in pregnant, nursing or breeding dogs, and use in these cases should be avoided. Safety has not been established for use in diabetic dogs or in dogs less than 6 months of age, and use in these cases should be avoided as well.
Use of Apocaps™ in other species
Apocaps™ should not be used in cats or other non-canine species.
Administration
Apocaps™ should be given with a very small amount of food, preferably less than 1-2 tablespoons. A small amount of food is suggested to help reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal upset. Competitive absorption inhibition by dietary bioflavonoids may interfere with bioavailability.
Can Apocaps™ be used with veterinary medications or treatments?
Concurrent use of Apocaps™ with anti inflammatory medications should be avoided, or used with caution at reduced doses based on veterinary advice. Apocaps™ administration should be stopped 3 or more days before surgery but may be resumed after healing is complete. Apocaps™ may be given concurrently with other common veterinary medications or treatments based on the judgment of the clinician.
